Under the Sea

June 8 has been designated as World Oceans Day. It is the day set aside to show our support to protect the oceans from pollution and keep them healthy for both humans and sea animals. I think most of us have had a chance to at least dip our toes in the ocean, if not swam in it. So you know how great it is, and if you are a diver, you already know what wonders the oceans hold in their depths, and how precious they are. But even if you just snorkel, you can get a sense of the life beneath.
There are several DVDs in the Library's collection that you can check out: the first one is Wondrous Secrets of the Ocean Realm. It is a four disc set that explores and examines the variety of life in the ocean.
Then there is Oceans which features under the sea film adventures: images of deepwater creatures and whale migration, to name a few.
Dawn of the Ocean discusses the forces that created the surface of the ocean and looks at attempts to document the spectrum of marine life.
And of course you have to watch Jean-Michel Cousteau Ocean Adventures. You will marvel as you watch him and his team dive hundreds of feet beneath the ocean's surface and encounter its inhabitants.
After watching these movies, I hope you will have a better appreciation of the water around us, specially since the oceans cover 71% of the earth's surface.
