Orphee et Eurydice

Orphee, refusing to admit that his love Eurydice is dead, journeys to
the Underworld to bring her back to life.
The Paris version includes ballet sequences.
Rigoletto - Giuseppe
Verdi
The Duke of Mantua seduces anyone in skirts from servant girls to the
wives and daughters of his friends. Cheering him on is Rigoletto, the detested
court jester. Only the Duke’s daughter
Gilda brings him joy and he guards her with his life.
Die Walkure –
Richard Wagner
This is the most deeply moving and romantic of the Ring cycle. It involves complex relationships between
brother and sister, husband and wife, father and daughter. The characters include valiant Siegmund and
Sieglindee, headstrong Brunnhilde and mighty, tortured Wotan and determined
Fricka and vengeful Hunding.
The Pearl Fishers
– Georges Bizet
Two fishermen swear to put friendship first by forgetting the alluring
priestress with whom they both fell in love, and the alluring priestess swears
to uphold her vow of chastity so she can protect the pearl divers from storms.
